Step3
Stay near the Plaza Independencia in Ciudad Vieja. Take amazing photographs so you can walk away with a bit of Uruguay's history and culture.

Listen to your appetite and choose your accommodations near the Mercado del Puerto located in Ciudad Vieja. It's only open in the afternoon; so, plan accordingly. If you want the full experience, visit on Saturday when street vendors, performers and artisans are there.

Get to Montevideo, Uruguay

Step1
Arrive by plane at the Carrasco International Airport in Montevideo. Typically, international flights land in Argentina first, where you'll be shuttled to Montevideo by air.

Take a ferry ride or hydrofoil across the Rio de la Plata from Buenos Aires.
Step3
Drive or take the bus from Argentina or Brazil. The roads are very comfortable. Bus riders will be dropped off at Terminal Tres Cruces upon arrival.

Take the bus! The buses in Montevideo are reliable and travel practically anywhere in the city. Most bus routes will stop running at 10:30 p.m.

Hire a cab. They're safe. They'll meter your trip, but beware of luggage surcharges and extra fees for travel between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., as well as on weekends and on holidays.

Know Your Destination

Dress for warm, temperate weather year round, but expect rapidly changing weather fronts, like high winds.
