    Find Accommodations

  1. Step 1

Book accommodations. Visit the Web site of Travel Alberta Canada, the official marketing organization for the government of Alberta (see Resources below), or call 800-ALBERTA.

  2. Step 2

Camp out or lodge near the Rocky Mountains if you prefer an outdoor adventure. Banff National Park, Jasper National Park and Willmore Wilderness Park offer accommodations ranging from $75 to $300 (Canadian).

  3. Step 3

Come for one of the province's many special events, which include the Wildlife Festival in Jasper, the Honen International Piano Competition in Calgary and the Carnaval de St. Isidore near Peace River.

  4. Step 4

Stay in a luxury hotel in Calgary or Edmonton. Prices range from $110 for a basic room to $2000 for a grand suite.

  5. Know Your Transportation Options

  6. Step 1

Fly into Edmonton International Airport or Calgary International Airport with most major U.S. carriers.

  7. Step 2

Catch a taxi at Edmonton International with fixed zone-based rates. There are also private shuttles you can reserve in advance at the Edmonton and Calgary airports.

  8. Step 3

Use Edmonton's light-rail transit system, or LRT, to get around the city.

  9. Step 4

Catch a train at any of the 31 stations in Calgary. You can also traverse Alberta on busses and shuttles.

  10. Know Your Destination

  11. Step 1

Enjoy Alberta's great outdoors. Lovers of skiing, snowmobiling, rock climbing, hiking and camping will find plenty to do.

  12. Step 2

Pack warm clothes. In the winter, temperatures average about 10 degrees Fahrenheit and can dip well below zero.

  13. Step 3

Exchange U.S. for Canadian dollars at the airport or in a bank. You gain about 10 cents on the dollar due to currency exchange rates, but those rates fluctuate so check before exchanging.

  14. Step 4

Visit attractions such as the Calgary Zoo, the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller, the Edmonton Grand Prix and the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton.

Tips & Warnings
  • Save your receipts for a tax rebate on your hotel stay and some other goods and services if you are not a Canadian resident. Pick up a "Visitor Tax Refund" application at any customs office, most tourism-information centers and some hotels.
  • Book as far in advance as possible if you plan on staying near the Rocky Mountains during ski season.
