Camp out or lodge near the Rocky Mountains if you prefer an outdoor adventure. Banff National Park, Jasper National Park and Willmore Wilderness Park offer accommodations ranging from $75 to $300 (Canadian).

Come for one of the province's many special events, which include the Wildlife Festival in Jasper, the Honen International Piano Competition in Calgary and the Carnaval de St. Isidore near Peace River.

Fly into Edmonton International Airport or Calgary International Airport with most major U.S. carriers.

Use Edmonton's light-rail transit system, or LRT, to get around the city.

Catch a train at any of the 31 stations in Calgary. You can also traverse Alberta on busses and shuttles.

Pack warm clothes. In the winter, temperatures average about 10 degrees Fahrenheit and can dip well below zero.

Exchange U.S. for Canadian dollars at the airport or in a bank. You gain about 10 cents on the dollar due to currency exchange rates, but those rates fluctuate so check before exchanging.
