Dayton, known as the "Gem City," is famous as the birthplace of aviation and the Wright brothers and offers many museums of aviation history. It's an interesting town to visit, and here's information on how to plan a trip there.

Find Accommodations in Dayton

Step1
A good place to start for accommodations is the Dayton Montgomery County Convention and Visitors Bureau's Web site (see Resources below).

For easy travel to the Convention Center and a variety of entertainment opportunities, book accommodations in the downtown area. Rates start at around $40 for 2-star hotels.
Step3
Stay on the north side of Dayton to be near the U.S. Air Force Museum. Accommodations range from $40 to $50.
Step4
Find great shopping opportunities when you choose accommodations near the Dayton Mall. Check into a 3-star national hotel chain for around $90 per night.
Step5
To enjoy the splendor of a historic homes in one of Dayton, stay at a bed and breakfast inn.

Getting There

Step1
Fly into the James M. Cox Dayton International Airport, located in the north metropolitan area. Nonstop service is available to most major cities in the United States.

By car, Dayton can be reached via Interstates 70 and 75, which cross near the airport north of Dayton.
Step3
For the most flexibility, travel locally by car. Public transit offers several bus routes within the county but not locally. Note for drivers: Dayton's downtown streets are straight and wide with two full lanes in either direction.

Things to Do in Dayton, Ohio

Take a tour of original historic homes in Carillon Park. Dayton has nine historic neighborhoods where you can see impressive mansions in Jacobethan, English Gothic, Queen Anne, Renaissance Revival, Colonial Revival and Georgian Revival styles.

The Dayton Air Show in the latter part of July is a major attraction. Book reservations early.

Take in the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park which honors the work of the Wright brothers and Paul Dunbar.

Dayton is home to many sports teams including the Dayton Dragons Baseball Team, the Dayton Bombers Ice Hockey team and the Dayton Jets Basketball Team. Other sports include the women's ice hockey team and the women's roller derby league.

Enjoy concerts by national and international musicians in Kettering, just a short distance from Dayton.
