How to Find a Summer Job at a Hostel
Hostels for backpackers, students and budget travelers (often called "youth hostels" although they seldom have any age limits) exist all over the world. These are cheap, no-frills places to stay that often need temporary workers, but be warned that the pay may be just a free room and a small stipend.

1
Decide where you want to go. Do an Internet search for your desired location plus the word "hostel."
-
2
Research the hostels in the area you've chosen. Some may have employment information on their Web sites. All should have contact information listed-call or email them to ask about jobs.
-
-
3
Find out what working at a hostel entails. It may involve housework, cleaning, manning the reception desk or similar chores. Ask the hostel managers about job requirements, pay and policies.
-
4
Apply to the hostel with a résumé and cover letter (although not all hostels will require this).
-
5
Go to the hostel. If you have your heart set on a particular location, the best idea is simply to go there and get to know the people running the hostel. Hostels usually have high employee turnover and the hiring process often is casual. It's not unusual for a hostel to hire someone on the spot.

Tips & Warnings
Be friendly and personable. Part of the hostel experience is being in a social melting pot with other travelers and forming an impromptu family.
If the managers do want a résumé and cover letter, keep these brief and to the point.
