Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Decide on the type of landscaping you want to do. Landscapers can specialize in Japanese meditation gardens, English herb gardens, or common bush gardens. There are also general landscaping jobs like laying sod, planting trees and installing mass flower beds.

  2. Step 2

Check out local landscaping companies to find out which ones are hiring. Many companies specialize in different forms of landscaping. Choose the outfits that focus on your areas of expertise.

  3. Step 3

Check online. Many companies and government jobs advertise on the Internet, and Web sites for landscaping companies often carry portfolios of their work.

  4. Step 4

Create a resumé and a portfolio. Create a photo portfolio of your most recent work. If you lack practical experience, use paper layouts to illustrate your design ideas. Create a resumé that is custom-tailored for each job and include a cover letter that underscores your strengths.

Tips & Warnings
  • Landscaping is difficult and creative work. Be ready to work hard and come up with new ideas every day.
  • Landscaping companies often assign the grunt work to new employees, but if you show promise, you’ll be designing soon.
