How to Camp at the City of Rocks National Reserve

If you're into camping, the City of Rocks National Reserve in Idaho offers granite monoliths, trails and artifacts of the first emigrants to Idaho, as well as over 500 climbing trails. Here are some tips to help you enjoy your camping experience.

  1. Step 1

    Plan ahead. City of Rocks National Reserve takes reservations for campsites, and there's often a waiting list.

  2. Step 2

    Each campsite accommodates eight people, two tents and two vehicles. The fees are $12 (plus tax) per night, $5 (plus tax) for one additional vehicle.

  3. Step 3

    If you are camping with a group, reservations are required. The reservation fee for each group is $25 with an additional nightly fee of $3 per person. There is a 12-person minimum for group sites. The maximum size of a group can vary.

  4. Step 4

    City of Rocks has one campsite that accommodates horses, with a corral and a water trough. For an optional $5 daily, park employees will fill the water trough. Hay for horses must be certified weed-free. Reservations for this site are strongly recommended.

  5. Step 5

    City of Rocks has one restroom and a visitors center. Several campsites are wheelchair accessible, although the trails are not.
