How to Add Lyrics to Songs in iTunes

You can actually add lyrics to songs in iTunes. The lyrics are stored in the song's information/identification boxes. This would allow you to sing along to your favorite songs while your iPod displays the song's lyrics when the song is playing. Here's how to have some fun!

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the iTunes icon on your computer's desktop or on one of the icon toolbars on the bottom of your screen. Open iTunes so that you can take the following actions.

    • 2

Scroll through the songs in your music library. When you find the song that you would like to edit, highlight it with the mouse.

    • 3

Go to the File menu and choose the command Get Info. This allows you to access the identification information for that particular song.

    • 4

Look for the information screen. The info screen for that particular song will now appear. This screen will have several textboxes to record the song's information. At the top of this screen are five tabs. Click the fourth tab which says Lyrics.

    • 5

Begin typing the lyrics. Now you will see a big empty text box. Move the mouse cursor into the text box and begin typing the lyrics to the song.

    • 6

Apply your changes. When you are done with this screen, you can click OK to apply the new lyrics to your song's ID3, or you can click Cancel to exit without applying any of the changes you may have checked.

Tips & Warnings

  • Files that you download through iTunes may already come with correct ID3 tags and lyrics.

  • Depending on the settings of your iPod's automatic organization features, changing the ID3 information of a song may have an effect on where iTunes chooses to store that particular song.

Hi, I've added some Chinese and Japanese font lyrics to a few songs, and sync them with my iphone3gs. It worked perfectly fine. The lyrics appeared ok! However, I tried adding some artwork. After that when I sync the songs with my iphone again, I realized some lyrics of the songs (which were ok previously) went cuckoo (ie appeared as garbage) on the iphone. Strange thing is some lyrics are ok, but some are not. I removed the suddenly-turned-faulty lyrics via itunes, but they still appear (as garbage) when I open the files using windows media player or on the iphone. When I Get Info --> lyrics, the lyrics was not there actually. So I do not know where the garbage lyrics come from. I am at a lost how could I remove the lyrics from the files, hope you could kindly advise. Could it be some hidden files/fields or is there a better tool to edit the lyrics? Thank you and cheers!
