When you connect your Sony DVP-NS41P CD/DVD player to a stereo television or two front speakers, you can set the DVD player to emulate the surround sound by creating virtual rear speakers. The TV Virtual Surround Sound (TVS) was developed by Sony so you know you’re getting the best.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sony DVP-NS41P
  • Television or input device (amplifier/receiver or projector) with surround sound capability
  • DVD player remote control with two AA batteries
  • A DVD of your choice with Dolby sound
  1. Step 1

Turn on the television, projector and/or amplifier.

  2. Step 2

Press the POWER button on either the DVD remote or the front of the DVD player.

  3. Step 3

Cycle through the input selector on your television menu so the signal from the DVD player appears on the screen.

  4. Step 4

Insert a DVD or CD into the disc tray.

  5. Step 5

During quick setup, use the arrow keys to select either DOLBY DIGITAL if your amplifier includes a Dolby decoder, otherwise select D-PCM.

  6. Step 6

Press SUR on your remote control.

  7. Step 7

Continue to press SUR to cycle through the settings (explained below in Tips).

  8. Step 8

    Press ENTER to select.

Tips & Warnings
  • To hook up your sound properly, purchase a coaxial cable from an electronics store—it’s not included with the DVD player. Connect Audio In on your amplifier or receiver and Digital Out/Coaxial on your DVD player.
  • TVS Dynamic Theater creates large virtual rear speakers and a sub-woofer. Great for a surround sound television or when the front speakers are close together.
  • TVS Dynamic creates virtual rear speakers without a sub-woofer.
  • TVS Wide creates five virtual speakers on each of the right and left side.
  • TVS Night creates five sets of speakers with the additional feature of suppressing loud noises like explosions and yells without suppressing dialog and other sounds.
  • TVS Standard is for use with two front speakers and creates the illusion of three sets of rear speakers.
  • When using the TVS settings of your Sony DVP-NS41P, turn off the surround sound settings on your television set.
