How to Deactivate Progressive Scan Mode on the Philips DVP642 Progressive Scan DVD Player

Rate: (2 Ratings)

The Philips DVP642 is a versatile DVD and CD player with many great features. The progressive scan display presents 60 frames per second on your television screen, rather than 30 frames per second on interlaced scanning, which is what a normal television system can handle. With double the frames per second, the picture resolution is much higher and the progressive scan eliminates jagged edges on moving objects in the movies you watch. In order to take advantage of the progressive scan mode on the Philips DVP642, you must have a progressive scan television. If your television is not capable of handling progressive scan, or the cables are not hooked up right, you will only see a blank screen. You can easily deactivate this feature on the Philips DVP642 by following the steps below.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A television
  • A Philips DVP642 Progressive Scan DVD Player

Step1
Press the Standby On button on the front panel of the DVD player to turn it on.
Step2
Press Open/Close on the front panel to open the disc tray.
Step3
Press Stop on the front panel.
Step4
Press Play/Pause on the front panel.
Step5
The blue Philips DVD background appears on the television screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your television screen is blank and you have already deactivated the progressive scan on your Philips DVP642, check to make sure the cords are all hooked up properly and that you are using a disc that is supported by the Philips DVP642.
  • If your television is not progressive scan compatible, you will not be able to use the progressive scan feature on the Philips DVP642. If your television is not progressive scan compatible, your television screen will be blank and no DVD will play until you deactivate progressive scan mode.
