Users of iTunes and iPods want to create simplicity in their lives, especially those who play games. Why manually update your iPod with games when you can do it automatically and spend that time playing the game instead? Automatically updating, or synching, your iPod takes very little time and saves you the hassle of determining what has already been updated and what has not. Follow these steps to set iTunes to automatically update games on an iPod.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • iTunes account
  • iPod
  1. Step 1

Enter iTunes and let the program load. When it is loaded, click on the link to the “iTunes Music Store” on the top left of the screen.

  2. Step 2

Find the link to “iPod Games” on the left side of the screen under the heading “iTunes Store.” Click on the link and let the page load completely. Click on the graphic for the game you are interested in, and read the description completely. When you are satisfied with the game and the purchase price, buy the game.

  3. Step 3

Buy the game by clicking on the icon “Buy Game,” and following the prompts on the next screen. Once the game has been purchased, the game will be loaded automatically into your library. You can buy as many games as you want at a time.

  4. Step 4

Plug your iPod into the computer using your iPod’s USB cable. The longer, rectangular end is hooked into your iPod while the smaller end, the USB, is plugged into the port on your computer.

  5. Step 5

Find and select your iPod under “Devices” on the menu to the left of the screen. Your iPod will have the display name that you gave it the first time you plugged it in, such as “Tom’s iPod.”

  6. Step 6

Make sure that the box next to “Manually Manage Music and Videos” is unchecked. This will be found at the bottom of the main screen once it loads.

  7. Step 7

Locate the “Music” tab next to the first tab, “Summary,” which is the screen you are currently on. Click on it and let the new page load. Check the box reading “Sync Music” located at the top of the page. When the next menu appears, check the option next to “Selected Playlists.” The options menu will now be available, allowing you to customize the media that you want to be updated automatically.

  8. Step 8

Select the box next to “Games,” along with any other options, such as “Playlists,” “Podcasts,” or “Songs.” Your selection is now saved, and you may exit the screen at any time, knowing the next time you plug your iPod in, your new games will be synched to your iPod.

Tips & Warnings
  • iPod games are only compatible with 5th generation Video iPods. These are the only devices that support the graphics for the game.
  • Preview the game before purchasing it by clicking on the circle icon that says “Preview” below the “Buy Game” icon on the description screen.
  • Keep your iPod connected for as long as possible to your computer. Not only does this allow iTunes to sync your device, but it also charges your iPod so that the battery does not run out.
  • Do not download any games from a site other than iTunes unless you know it is reputable. When a virus is sent to your iPod, it is extremely difficult to have removed.
