These steps will help you use the equalizer in iTunes.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • iTunes account
  1. Step 1

Open iTunes on your computer. Click on the iTunes icon on your desktop to open the program.

  2. Step 2

Click on "View" at the top left corner of the iTunes window. Scroll down to "Show Equalizer" and click on the text.

  3. Step 3

Make sure that the equalizer is on. Look to see if the on/off check box is checked. The check box is located at the top left corner of the equalizer window.

  4. Step 4

Browse the preset EQ setting. Click on the scroll down button below "Equalizer" on the equalizer window. A list of preset frequency settings, named for what genre of music that they are most effective for, should appear.

  5. Step 5

Choose a preset EQ setting. Try a few out before deciding on one. If you are listening to rock music, then click the preset setting for rock music.

  6. Step 6

Customize the EQ settings. If the preset frequencies please you, then change the frequencies manually. You can then save the settings by selecting "Make Preset" under the scroll bar used to browse the other presets.

Tips & Warnings
  • Adjust the pre-amp control to hear songs that are quieter or louder than other songs.
  • Not all songs will sound good in the same setting. Experiment to find what works best for you.
  • Customizing your own frequency settings can be difficult. Unless you know exactly how to change the settings, stick to the presets by iTunes.
