How to Customize Song Sound Frequencies in iTunes

Customizing song sound frequencies can improve the sound quality of your songs in iTunes. Different settings are made to enhance certain styles of music, so it can be necessary to change the EQ settings. It is a fairly simple and sonically rewarding thing to do. These are steps to take to customize song sound frequencies in iTunes.

  • Computer
  • iTunes account
  1. Step 1

    Open iTunes. Click on the iTunes icon on your computer’s desktop.

  2. Step 2

    Play a song using iTunes. Play any song you would like to hear from any of your playlists in iTunes.

  3. Step 3

    View the equalizer. Under "View" at the top of your screen or iTunes window, click on "Show Equalizer." The equalizer should pop up in a small window.

  4. Step 4

    Adjust the equalizer. Increase or decrease the volume of a frequency by adjusting the sliders on the equalizer.

  5. Step 5

    Browse the preset EQ settings. Click on the scroll bar beneath "Equalizer" in the equalizer window. Try a few out and make any changes that you would like.

  6. Step 6

    Save your custom changes. When you close the equalizer, your changes will be saved.

Tips & Warnings
  • Give your customized levels a name. You can use a different preset and go back to your customized setting.
  • If you customize a setting, do not name/save it and use a different preset, doing so your customized EQ setting will be lost.
