Things You'll Need:

  • A computer with Internet access.

    Choose a Railway Line

  1. Step 1

Find a train schedule for VIA Rail Canada on their Web site in a PDF format or download it to your laptop or PDA. You can also call the toll-free number for VIA Rail Canada at 888-842-7245.

  2. Step 2

Book your reservations for train travel from Quebec City to Montreal at the Quebec City station. The address for the station is 450 Rue De La Gare Du Palais and it's between the post office and courthouse.

  3. Step 3

Pick up some food at the snack bar inside the train station before hopping on your 3-hour long ride from Quebec City to Montreal.

  4. Step 4

Relax in knowing that the Quebec City station offers four trains a day during the week and three on weekends. The weekday trains are split between the morning and afternoon while the weekend trains have one run in the morning and two in the afternoon.

  5. Step 5

The Quebec City train station doesn't offer so many services as to warrant arriving too early before your departure for Montreal. However, you will find an ATM, bicycle box, newspapers, telephones and a waiting room.

  6. Select Traveling Class

  7. Step 1

Request an additional seat next to yours when you book your train travel if you are carrying an instrument or other large carry-ons for a reduced rate. Simply call the VIA Rail toll-free number and let the representative know your situation.

  8. Step 2

Have your choice of Comfort class or VIA 1 class for your trip from Quebec City to Montreal. Both classes have pay-per-use wireless Internet access on the majority of trains.

  9. Step 3

Smoke before you board your train, as all trains operating in southern Quebec and Ontario are smoke-free.

  10. Purchase Tickets

  11. Step 1

Book your tickets fast online with the powerful RESERVIA system that keeps all train travel schedules up-to-date. The system lets you know if Internet service, checked baggage or assigned seating is available.

  12. Step 2

Pay for a one-way Comfort class ticket from Quebec City to Montreal at a price of under $50 to $75. If you are looking for a first-class choice, then pick VIA 1 class and your price range will be between $100 and $150.
