Things You'll Need:
- A computer with Internet access.
-
Step 1
Traverse from Saskatoon to Winnipeg in The Canadian, a transcontinental train line that is part of VIA Rail Canada.
-
Step 2
Plan on booking your train travel from Saskatoon to Winnipeg on only Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, as those are the only available days.
-
Step 3
Rest during your trip, curl up with a book or see the passing sights through the huge windows. With a little over a 9-hour ride, you will have plenty of time on your hands.
-
Step 4
Check train schedules online with VIA Rail Canada's RESERVIA system, print them out in a PDF file or download them in an electronic version. Reservations can also be booked by calling 888-842-7245 (toll-free).
-
Step 5
Find the Saskatoon station conveniently located only five miles south from downtown on Chappell Drive just off of 11th street.
-
Step 1
Enhance your experience by booking your train travel in VIA Rail's sleeper class. You can choose from a single, double or triple bed or an upper or lower berth.
-
Step 2
Understand that most trains have assigned seating so when you book your reservations, make sure you will be assigned a seat instead of fighting for one.
-
Step 3
Take snacks and some money with you when you travel to Winnipeg, as The Canadian will only provide snacks and not an entire meal. You can buy food at the Skyline car's take-out counter or cafe and Comfort class travelers can access the dining car during off-peak seasons.
-
Step 1
Buy tickets online with your debit or credit card. Visit a VIA Rail Canada ticket counter and pay not only with cash or card but also with a money order, personal or corporate check or a traveler's check.
-
Step 2
Pay for an economical trip of around $100 by choosing to book Comfort class or spring for the Sleeper class. The Sleeper class ranges in price from $300 to $700-plus per adult ticket.
-
Step 3
Lose your train ticket from Saskatoon to Winnipeg and you will have to purchase another one. You can submit a claim for the missing tickets, but there is no guarantee of a full or partial refund.
