Things You'll Need:
- Passport with appropriate visas if you are not Canadian.
- Computer with access to the Internet.
-
Step 1
Prepare for a trip lasting two days. Trains depart Vancouver at about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
-
Step 2
Plan to arrive in Winnipeg at roughly 11:30 a.m. on a Thursday, Sunday or Tuesday.
-
Step 3
Check out a map before the journey. The train will go over the Rocky Mountains, through Edmonton and over some of the great plains of Canada.
-
Step 1
Conduct some research before you book your travel. The train will have a Silver & Blue Class, which entitles the traveler to a bed, shower, and luxury meals. It is more than twice as much as Comfort Class, which requires the traveler to sleep sitting up and to pay for meals individually. The food can be expensive, and so can a chiropractor if you sleep sitting up for a few days, so account for that when you book your travel.
-
Step 2
Expect to check most of your baggage. The train company requires all large items, sports equipment, and animals to be checked into the baggage car.
-
Step 3
Be advised that alcohol consumption is governed by the laws of the province that the train is traveling through. For the most part, if you want a cocktail, you'll need to buy it on the train. On some parts of the journey, though, you can consume alcohol you brought yourself, but only in a private bedroom.
-
Step 1
See when you have eligibility for discounts. These are given for booking travel more than five days in advance, and for travelers who are children, students, seniors, conference-goer or in a large group.
-
Step 2
Book your travel online, over the telephone or through a travel agent. Alternatively, you could just buy your tickets in person at the train station.
