Take some of Guilin along with you when you leave for Guangzhou. Purchasing local art is an excellent way to do this.
Prepare for the Train Ride to Guangzhou

Research your travel options online before you book your tickets.

Book tickets at the Guilin train station only if you are comfortable speaking in Chinese. Otherwise, pay the extra service fee to book your tickets through a travel agent or through your hotel.

Confirm your ticket in advance by picking it up at the train station a day or two in advance of the trip.

Pack your belongings the night before you travel. This helps to make sure that you haven't forgotten anything.
Take the Train to Guangzhou

Arrive early at the Guilin train station. Note that there are two stations in Guilin (Guilin Zhan and Guilin Bei Zhan). Most travelers use the latter, but double-check your tickets to make sure that you arrive at the correct station.

Be prepared to show your ticket to the train conductor. You may also have to show your passport and other identification.

Find your seat or sleeper and make yourself comfortable. Confine yourself to your own space in order to respect the space of others on the train.

Watch the landscape unfolding around you or make appropriate conversation with those sitting near you. It's in your best interests to avoid discussing politics.
