Prepare for Train Travel
-
1
Visit the dining car if you get hungry. Amtrak dining cars offer full meals. However, Savannah has great restaurants, so you should try to wait until your train pulls into the station.
-
2
Make your trip a little longer by extending your travel to the Eastern Seaboard. The Palmetto is a train that leaves from Savannah in the early morning and travels to New York and Boston.
-
-
3
Plan on another form of entertainment since the scenery along this route is not great. After all, just because you book a trip to travel across the South, it doesn't mean that your train will have much to show you. The South is not the French countryside.
-
4
Take the Orient. The Orient Express is Amtrak's luxury train. The train only runs 2 or 3 times a year, and one of the stops is Savannah. This is a good way to get the most out of your rail experience.
-
5
Wait for stellar ticket sales. Look up the sale section on Amtrak's Web site (see below for the link). You can sometimes save more than $50 on a one way ticket.
-
6
Don't judge a book by its cover. Savannah is a beautiful city, but the train station's aesthetics leave much to be desired.
