Book your train travel for the right reasons. Riding a train from Jacksonville to Charleston takes only 20 minutes less than the trip by car. The cost of a train ticket is reasonable and under $60, but the cost of gas might be cheaper depending on your car's gas mileage.

Charleston's train station does not have an automated Quik-Trak machine that will generate a ticket when you type in your reservation number like an ATM machine. You will have to trust that an attendant will be onsite when you arrive to the station to give you a ticket.
If you don't have a car, bring cash because the local taxi services are expensive. Taxis cost over $25 for only 8 miles.
