A perfect way to make the most of this experience is to travel by train between these two historically important cities. Today, modern rail service has made this easier than ever.

Plan Your Trip

Step1
Take the Northeast Corridor Boston to Virginia Beach route northbound from Newport News to Boston. There are two trains departing daily with direct service to Boston.
Step2
Connect with an Acela Express train in Washington, DC if you want to experience travel on Amtrak's fastest train. On board you will have the option of Business or First-class seating.
Step3
Bring along a book or your laptop for this trip. You will be spending between 12 and 15 hours on the train.

Purchase Your Tickets

Step1
Use your PDA or computer to review schedules and make reservations on Amtrak. You can also book passage by phoning Amtrak or speaking to a travel agent.
Step2
Select from one of three stations to arrive in Boston. The fares do not change for each of these stations, but you may find one station more convenient for your plans than another.
Step3
Select your ticket class when purchasing your ticket. You may also be able to upgrade your seat on board if Business class seats are available.
Step4
Buy in bulk and save on travel along the Northeast Corridor. You can purchase 10-trip tickets for use within a specified period of time or monthly passes if you plan on traveling more frequently.

Board Your Train from Newport News to Boston

Step1
Connect with the station at Newport News from other destinations in Virginia by bus. There is Thru-Way Bus service offered by Amtrak for this station.
Step2
Depart in Boston's South Station to connect with the MBTA for travel throughout the city. This is the largest train terminal in Boston.
Step3
Step off the train at Back Bay Station in Boston. It is a smaller station, but it may make your trip to the Back Bay, Beacon Hill or South End easier.
Step4
Book your ticket through to the Route 128 Station if you are traveling to the area surrounding Boston. This station is located at 50 University Avenue in Westwood, MA.
