How to Book Train Travel from Albany to Boston

The trip from Albany, NY to Boston, MA on the Lakeshore Limited is a pleasant 5 1/2-hour ride through the majestic Berkshire Mountains, one of the most awe-inspiring sights in New England. This train originates in Chicago and makes daily runs along the Great Lakes, through New York state and into Boston.

Things You'll Need:

  • A computer with online access.
  1. Step 1

    Call Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak's web site in the "Resources" section below. On the web site, you can book your train reservations via Amtrak's Fare Finder. You can also navigate the site if you have a PDA, Blackberry or other handheld device.

  2. Step 2

    If you ordered your tickets online or by phone, pick them up at a ticket agent or at one of the Quik-Trak kiosks that can be found at many Amtrak locations (you'll need to enter your reservation number). If you've booked your trip far in advance, you can also request that your tickets be mailed to you.

  3. Step 3

    Choose your station. You can take the train from Albany to Boston's Back Bay Station, South Station, or Route 128 Station. The Back Bay and South stations are closer to the center of downtown.

Tips & Warnings
  • Checked baggage service is available at both the Albany and Boston train stations.
  • There is a snack car on this train that sells munchies of all sorts, as well as pizza, soup and salad to provide sustenance to hungry travelers.
  • The train station in Boston has a full service restaurant that is open during regular ticketing hours.
  • There is no smoking on the train on this route.
