The train trip from Cincinnati to New York takes about 30 hours, depending on the number of transfers in your itinerary. However, you can take advantage of this stop-over time to tour cities like Chicago and Pittsburgh.

Things You’ll Need:

  • A computer with internet access.
Step1
Select the 51 Cardinal, which departs once daily from Cincinnati Union Station. At Chicago (which you'll reach in about 10 hours) you'll transfer to the 30 Capitol Limited, and again in Pittsburgh to the 42 Pennsylvanian.
Step2
If you're in a particular hurry, book travel on the 50 Cardinal direct from Cincinnati to New York. This trip takes about 19 hours.
Step3
Call Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak's web site in the "Resources" section below. On the web site, you can book your train reservations via Amtrak's Fare Finder. You can also navigate the site if you have a PDA, Blackberry or other handheld device.
Step4
If you ordered your tickets online or by phone, pick them up at a ticket agent or at one of the Quik-Trak kiosks that can be found at many Amtrak locations (you'll need to enter your reservation number). If you've booked your trip far in advance, you can also request that your tickets be mailed to you.
