Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A computer with internet access.
  1. Step 1

You can choose to ride from New York City to Chicago on the 49 Lakeshore train, which has a dining car and a lounge car. This train changes over at Chicago for 50 Cardinal, which offers a lounge car and airplane-style tray meals.

  2. Step 2

You can also hop on a regional train from Penn Station, which leave twice daily. You'll transfer in Washington, DC to the 29 Capitol Limited, and again in Chicago to the 50 Cardinal.

  3. Step 3

Call Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak's web site in the "Resources" section below. On the web site, you can book your train reservations via Amtrak's Fare Finder. You can also navigate the site if you have a PDA, Blackberry or other handheld device.

  4. Step 4

If you ordered your tickets online or by phone, pick them up at a ticket agent or at one of the Quik-Trak kiosks that can be found at many Amtrak locations (you'll need to enter your reservation number). If you've booked your trip far in advance, you can also request that your tickets be mailed to you.

Tips & Warnings
  • When booking online, insert 'NYP' and 'CIN' in the station code boxes.
