Things You'll Need:
- A computer with Internet access.
-
Step 1
Call Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak's web site in the "Resources" section below. On the web site, you can book your train reservations via Amtrak's Fare Finder. You can also navigate the site if you have a PDA, Blackberry or other handheld device.
-
Step 2
If you ordered your tickets online or by phone, pick them up at a ticket agent or at one of the Quik-Trak kiosks that can be found at many Amtrak locations (you'll need to enter your reservation number). If you've booked your trip far in advance, you can also request that your tickets be mailed to you.
-
Step 3
Consider whether you want to take Amtrak or Sound Transit. Amtrak is more expensive, but more comfortable and about 15 minutes faster. Sound Transit is about half the price, but has many more stops, less room for luggage, and less comfortable seating.
-
Step 4
Budget $10 to $15 for a one-way trip from Tacoma to Seattle if you travel byAmtrak. You'll pay between $5 and $10 if you book tickets on Sound Commuter Light Rail.
-
Step 5
Make sure that you are booking train travel on Amtrak or Sound Transit, and not bus travel. Both systems employ buses as well as trains.
-
Step 6
Consider buying a monthly pass if you travel by train between Tacoma and Seattle often. You will save a considerable amount of money and hassle.
-
Step 1
Arrive 30 minutes early if you're traveling onAmtrak and checking luggage. You only need to arrive 15 minutes early if you're not checking luggage.
-
Step 2
Consider park and ride, to avoid traffic on your way to the Tacoma Dome and the hassle of parking. If you do drive, parking is free and ample.
-
Step 3
Sit on the west side of the train, for some beautiful views of Puget Sound.
