Buy your train ticket in Bratislava. You can get a ticket at the international ticket desk but it is advisable to purchase yours a day in advance.

Find a direct trip to Vienna easily. Vienna and Bratislava have been called the two closest capital cities in the world.

Book your tickets online. Try to plan your tickets through Rail Europe if you are planning to travel to multiple countries (see website below for details).

Get a first class seat for comfort. This is especially good if you are taking a longer route to get to Vienna with some stops along the way.

Book some of your travel on the Sudbahn railways if you've got extra time. This trip, from Vienna to Graz, is great for sightseeing. You'll have the perfect opportunity to make some stops for hiking and visiting small villages.

Take a taxi from either of Vienna's main train stations.

Get on a tram to explore the city. Get a tram in the Innere Stadt, the oldest part of the city, to see the stunning architecture of the Hofburg (the former imperial palace) and Parliament.

Get off your train at Vienna Central to be in the heart of the action. You can visit St. Stephen's Church in the city center and climb the towers if you're not too tired.
