Timisoara is known as Romania's most western-like city, and is beloved for its baroque architecture and a pedestrian-only downtown filled with cafes and shops. The trip to Timisoara from Craiova should take between 5 1/2 to 8 hours, depending on whether the train goes straight to Timisoara or makes a stopover in Stamora or Resita.

Book Train Travel From Craiova to Timisoara

  1. Step 1

Go to the Romanian State Railway website. Click on 'Train Schedule,' then locate the 'Timetable Services' area on the left side of the page. (Click on the British flag or 'EN' if the new page reverts to Romanian.)

  2. Step 2

Enter the date you would like to travel from the drop-down menu (it only goes up to one month in advance). Type 'Craiova' in the 'From' area and 'Timosoara' in the 'To' area, making sure to spell the city names correctly. Leave the 'Via' field blank unless you would like to stop off at another Romanian city en route.

  3. Step 3

Fill in 'Departure Interval' or 'Arrival Interval' if you have a particular time you would like to leave Craiova or to arrive in Timisoara. If not, leave those fields blank, and don't bother with any of the other fields on this confusing page--just hit 'Search' in the lower left corner.

  4. Step 4

Choose from the list of trains running from Craiova to Timisoara on your chosen date. Icons will inform you as to what services are available: first class, second class, dining car, sleeping car and check-in luggage.

  5. Step 5

Write down the details of the train(s) you would prefer to travel on. You will need to book tickets when you get to Romania, either at the Romanian State Railway (SNCFR) office in Bucharest (at least 24 hours in advance) or at the Craiova station. You cannot book the train ticket via website.
