Choose between a Eurail pass, a Germany & Austria pass, and a point-to-point ticket. A Eurail pass allows you the option to travel through 3 to 4 neighboring European countries for a set number of days. The Germany & Austria pass offers you unlimited travel between the 2 countries for a specific time. A point-to-point ticket is sufficient if Vienna will be your only destination in Europe.

Go to the Euro Railway Web site (see Resources). Select the ticket purchase option from the menu bar. To book point-to-point tickets, enter "Nuremberg" and "Vienna" in the respective destination boxes. Input station and route choices as well as your departure day and time. Select your seating class option (first or second), and the type of seat you would prefer: passenger, couchette or sleeping car.

Select the type of pass you prefer (Eurail or Germany & Austria) if you're not purchasing a point-to-point ticket. Then choose the number of days you want your pass to cover and your seating class preference. Note that there are special options for seniors, youths and children.

Opt to reserve your seat to maximize comfort and ease on your journey. Also consider selecting the direct connection option, as a trip from Nuremberg to Vienna can vary in length from 5 1/2 to 8 hours.

Tips & Warnings
Timetables can be found at the Eurail and Deutsche Bahn Web sites.
The main train station in Nuremberg is located right outside the Old Town. There is an Information Office located just inside the city walls, a short walk from the train station. Stop there on your way to the train station if you have any questions.
Tickets can be purchased by a local agent if you prefer not to book them yourself.
Reserving your seat is the best where available. Without seat reservation, a seat is not guaranteed. Train tickets and passes allow you to board the train but do not guarantee a seat.
Consider purchasing the Germany & Austria pass, which allows you unlimited travel between the 2 countries at a reasonable price. This pass covers 5 to 8 days within a 2-month period.
You can also add an additional national pass for the Czech Republic or another Eurail pass for travel to 3 to 4 neighboring countries for an additional fee. These options will help you to save money if you plan to travel beyond Vienna.
Be sure to have all of your belongings together and in one place. Keep track of your money, your identification information (especially your passport) and train tickets. Make sure that they are protected but easily accessed.

When entering the Nuremberg train station information, note that there are 2 Nuremberg train stations offered, the airport train station and the Franken St station. The Franken St Station is located outside the Old Town.
