Wow, whoever wrote this article obviously hasn't travelled by train in the UK for a very long time. Buy a ticket direct from Oxford to Cambridge online, or at any train station. No need to buy separate tickets for different legs of the journey. Use the underground to get from Kings Cross to Paddington. A taxi, though admittedly more relaxing, will be more expensive and possibly take a long time depending on the time of day.
