Lima is the capital of the South American country of Peru. The city features a combination of colonial Spanish architecture and modern hotels. Read on to learn how to find luxury accommodations in Lima, Peru.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer With Internet Access
  • Passport

Secure Your Accommodations

Step1
Seek accommodations in downtown Lima if you want to enjoy the luxury of being within walking distance of stunning colonial architecture. But be prepared to spend lots of money. Four- and five-star hotels here can cost you a couple of hundred dollars a night. Contact the Republic of Peru Commission for the Promotion of Peru by calling 011 (+51) 1 574 8000 or visiting the site listed below.
Step2
Find most accommodations in central Lima. Look for a selection of hotel types near Plaza Mayor, from luxury rooms to hostel dorms. One option to consider is the Hotel Country Club. See the Resources section for a link to this property.
Step3
Stay at luxury accommodations with scenic ocean views on the west side of town. Here, the shopping is very upscale, as well as the dining options. You will also find the most expensive prices, upwards of $300 a night or more, for five-star options.
Step4
Discover local luxury at mansions and homes that have been converted into bed and breakfast accommodations. Prices here can be half that of local hotels and you will experience true Peruvian food, culture and hospitality.
Step5
Find super cheap accommodations at local Lima hostels. There are a ton of options with many rooms available for as little as $8 a night. However, the level of luxury among hostels here varies greatly, so choose wisely.

Travel to Lima, Peru

Step1
Fly into Jorge Chavez Airport (Lima-Callo). There are direct flights from Miami.
Step2
Use only taxis waiting for you at the airport terminal. The taxis that wait outside the terminal will cost you much more, especially if you do not speak Spanish well.
Step3
Expect in-town taxis to get you to most of your city destinations for no more than $8, as that is more than enough to get you to most places. Always negotiate the cost before you get in to be sure.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are staying downtown or near the ocean in Lima, you can walk to most of the tourist destinations with ease.
  • Take care on the streets when on foot. Lima is world-famous for erratic drivers who don't stop for pedestrians.
  • Check with your hotel for a free shuttle, many offer complimentary transportation to and from your accommodations.
  • All phone numbers include the United States international prefix "011." When calling internationally outside the United States, substitute that "011" with "00."
  • All country codes are within parentheses and begin with a "+" sign.
  • Take precautions if you have allergies. The air quality in Lima is poor due to a high level of smog caused by pollution.
