Things You'll Need:
- A valid passport.
-
Step 1
To book accommodations, contact St. Lucia Tourist Board at (758) 452-4094 or visit the Web site (see Resources below). Find it all at a beach resort. Some of the finest, most all-inclusive luxury accommodations on the whole island can be found in the beach resorts of Castries. With 5-star service, classy shops, fine dining and more all on site, travelers looking for a great time while living it up in style will find everything they are looking for at a beach resort.
-
Step 2
Seek privacy. If a big resort is too flashy for you, there are plenty of small, luxury inns with private beach access for those who want to get away from it all. These accommodations provide all the comforts and amenities you would expect in a large resort but without the crowds and the noise.
-
Step 3
Pick a place in a well populated area. The attacks on tourists that have occurred have happened at luxury hotels on the edges of town. You can still find plenty of luxury accommodations in the more populated areas of Castries and you will likely be a lot safer.
-
Step 1
Arrange for a taxi. This is by far the easiest way to see Castries and St. Lucia. Most hotels and resorts will arrange taxi transportation for guests for an additional fee.
-
Step 2
Ride with the locals. Small passenger vans offer service between towns on St. Lucia, and most of them use Castries as a base of operations. These vans hold from a half dozen to a dozen people and are cheaper than a taxi, though they do not always run on regular schedules.
-
Step 1
Venture into the jungle. Jungle safaris are popular draws for eco travelers and there are plenty of tour companies catering to this clientele. Wear comfortable clothing, bring some insect repellent and take a memorable tour of the island's natural wonders while learning about its fascinating history.
-
Step 2
Eat fresh produce at an open air market. Castries has many small, colorful local markets going on at most times and days of the week. Stroll through one or two and sample some of the island's lush natural produce to energize yourself for your jungle trek.
