Bangladesh is easily forgotten in Asia because of the other options that are there: Indonesia, Thailand, India, et. al. This is a good thing for travelers: you'll not need to battle the crowds to enjoy what is easily one of the most intriguing countries in the region. Beautiful vistas, quaint villages, gorgeous beaches and upscale resorts help make Bangladesh one of the region's best kept secrets.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A computer with internet access in order to book accommodations online.
  • A valid passport from your nation of origin and all appropriate visas.

Choose the Perfect Hotel in Bangladesh

  1. Step 1

To book accommodations, contact Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation of the National Tourism Organization at 011 (+880) 2 8119192 or visit the Web site (see Resources below). Start your journey through Bangladesh in accommodations in Dhaka, the capital. There are a lot of great luxury accommodations to be found, particularly near the city center.

  2. Step 2

Be sure to spend a few nights in Chittagong. This commercial and industrial center is one of the busiest in Asia and features some of the finest hotels in the country.

  3. Step 3

Sleep in accommodations along Cox's Bazar, the longest beach in the world. There are 100 miles of unbroken coastline, and several wonderful resorts and luxury accommodations along its edge.

  4. Step 4

Stop in Khulna for its world-renowned shrimp dishes. Many of the best hotels feature shrimp prominently on the menu.

  5. Step 5

Set aside at least one day to visit Rajshahi. Several luxury five-star hotels in the city are located close to the market district, so it's easy to get a lot of handwoven silk for great prices.

  6. Get in and around Bangladesh

  7. Step 1

Arrive in Bangladesh at ZIA International Airport. It's the primary entry point into the country, with daily flights to and from Asia and Europe.

  8. Step 2

Take the bus from city to city. It's an easy and affordable way to get around without having to charter an airplane, and many of the bus terminals are within walking distance to accommodations.

  9. Step 3

Take advantage of Bangladesh's many rivers and buy a ticket on a ferry to cities along the waterways. Many waterfront hotels actually offer dock to dock service!

  10. Step 4

Relax on a chartered boat from Dhaka to Barisal. Sleeping quarters are available on the ferries, including some very comfortable cabins for guests who want some more leg room.

Tips & Warnings
  • Unrest (as of late 2006) is brewing ahead of the January elections. It would be a good idea to keep tabs on the situation in the country and plan your travel accordingly.
  • Update your vaccinations before heading to Bangladesh. Serious ailments like hepatitis and meningitis are concerns in the country.
