Aruba is an island nestled in the heart of the Caribbean, just off the coast of Venezuela. Officially part of the Netherlands, it functions independently with tourism as its main industry. The native languages are Dutch and Papiamento, but English is also widely spoken.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with internet access to book reservations.

Select the Accommodations that Suit Your Style and Budget

  1. Step 1

To book accommodations, contact Aruba Tourism Authority at (800) To-Aruba or visit the Web site (see Resources below). Choose a luxury high-rise hotel ready to cater to your every need. Most have a casino, restaurant, health spa and shopping gallery indoors. Venture outdoors to enjoy the hotel's private beaches with water sports.

  2. Step 2

Settle into one of Aruba's cozy boutique hotels. A fully equipped kitchen and carefully designed decor will make you feel right at home.

  3. Step 3

Vacation in luxury at an affordable price. Grab a few friends and rent a villa together. You'll enjoy your own private beach and receive group rates on everything from windsurfing to snorkeling.

  4. Plan for Your Trip to Aruba

  5. Step 1

Book your airline or chartered flight into Queen Beatrix International Airport, or take a luxury cruise to the island. Bring along your foreign or international driver's license to rent a car at the airport.

  6. Step 2

Learn some of the customs and practices you may encounter during your trip. For example, some Arubans believe you must exit the same door you entered. Others hang a red ribbon over their doorways to guard against malevolent spirits.

  7. Step 3

Plan your trip in June to catch the St. John's Day feast. Witness the traditional folk dancing of Arubans in their bright red and yellow costumes.

  8. Get to Know the Sites of Aruba

  9. Step 1

Explore Aruba by hitting the road in a rented scooter or motorcycle. For a more comfortable ride, a coach tour can pick you up at your accommodations and show you the island in style.

  10. Step 2

Adventure into the more remote regions of Aruba in a 4-wheel drive. One must-see is the Cura di Tortuga or Natural Pool, a concealed pool that can only be reached by jeep or horseback.

  11. Step 3

Drive to the northern coast of Aruba to see its spectacular sand dunes. Head back to the island's center to Aruba's national park. There you can view a wide variety of exotic plants and animals, as well as explore its caves and tunnels.

Tips & Warnings
  • Driving on the dunes is forbidden, so plan to exit your vehicle and explore them on foot.
  • Leave your computer at home and make use of the several internet cafes available throughout Aruba for about $5 an hour.
