Antigua and Barbuda, once Great Britain's base in the Caribbean, are now 2 of the Caribbean's most popular tourist spots. Find endless opportunities to explore, surf and snorkel by day and a wide range of restaurants and entertainment to enjoy by night.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer with internet access to book accommodations and flights between the islands.

Select Your Luxury Accommodations in Antigua and Barbuda

Step1
To book accommodations, contact Antigua and Barbuda Department of Tourism and Trade at (305) 381-6762 or visit the Web site (see Resources below). Spend all your time on one island or the other, or book accommodations in both. Barbuda has fewer options, so availability may be less than on Antigua.
Step2
Stay in one of the many luxury accommodations located on one of Antigua's 365 beaches.
Step3
Choose the northwest coast if you seek a luxury resort with all the trimmings. If you are interested in traveling to St John's, stay at Fort James or Deep Bay.
Step4
Reserve a room in accommodations in Antigua's southwest for more quiet beaches and rough terrain.

Find Your Way Around in Antigua and Barbuda

Step1
Travel between the islands by choosing a 20-minute flight or a 3-hour cruise, both with their advantages.
Step2
Take a taxi from the airport or harbor to your luxury accommodations on the island. Fares should cost anywhere from $7 to $21 depending on the exact destination.
Step3
Rent a car for around $40 to $50 per day. You'll need to pay $20 for a permit to drive in Antigua. Driving here is on the left side of the road, so be prepared!

Enjoy the Many Attractions of Antigua and Barbuda

Step1
Plan your vacation for the summer, and catch the Antigua Carnival: 10 full days of music, pageants, talent shows and extraordinary costumes. Antiguans come out in full force to celebrate their emancipation from slavery in 1834.
Step2
Buy souvenirs for friends and family in Sea View Farm Village, where the tradition of creating pottery dates back 300 years.
Step3
Search for treasure along the eastern shores of Barbuda along with other seasoned beachcombers. The pink and whites sands are like something out of a dream.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wander freely and safely, but bring a companion if traveling to any isolated areas of the island.
  • Grab a taxi and ask the driver to give you a tour of the island. This is a good way to get an insider's view on where the best beaches are.
  • Pottery from Antigua tends to break more easily in cold climates, so keep this in mind before making any purchases.
