Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with internet access for making reservations.

Select Your Luxury Accommodations in Angola

  1. Step 1

Stay for at least the first night in Luanda, Angola, as you'll be flying into the Luanda Airport to begin your trip.

  2. Step 2

Consider booking a guided tour to ensure your continued safety while traveling in Angola.

  3. Step 3

Select a hotel that offers the added luxury of a gym, complete with sauna and Jacuzzi. Navigating your way around Angola can be stressful, and you'll be glad to have a relaxing place where you can unwind.

  4. Prepare for Your Hotel Stay in Angola

  5. Step 1

Ask your luxury accommodations to have a car waiting for you when you arrive at the airport, as taxis are rare and quite expensive.

  6. Step 2

Consider renting a car for the duration of your visit. Although not cheap, at around $45 per day, it's worth it. Often you can get a driver to go with it, and then you'll have someone who knows his way around.

  7. Step 3

Book your flight during the dry, cool season, which runs from June through late September. That's the only time of the year you'll find Kissama National Park open. Just 45 miles south of Luanda, you can stay in accommodations right inside the park and be able to explore at leisure.

  8. Find Interesting Things to Do in Angola

  9. Step 1

Enjoy a swim at one Luanda's bathing beaches. The Ilha beaches are only five minutes away from your accommodations in the city's center.

  10. Step 2

Take a half hour drive south of Luanda to the beach at Palmeirinhas, where the scenery will take your breath away. Swimming here is dangerous, but bring along a fishing rod and see what's biting.

  11. Step 3

Fly from Luanda to Lubango and take a scenic 93 mile drive to Namibe, a coastal town which offers great beaches. Stop along the way at any one of the many native villages to enjoy some local color, and consider finding accommodations in Namibe.

  12. Step 4

Travel just 12 miles outside Lubango to the Tunda Vala volcanic fissure. Hike your way up to 8,000 feet above sea level and enjoy incomparable views.

Tips & Warnings
  • Drink only boiled and bottled water during your stay to avoid any chance of catching cholera.
  • Stay inside major cities and avoid traveling in isolated areas, as armed robberies in more rural areas are becoming more frequent.
  • Travel more safely by avoiding certain provinces. Avoid Cabinda, where fighting still breaks out between separatists and government forces. The Uige Province has had an outbreak of the Marburg virus, which is extremely contagious, and the North and South Lunda Provinces have seen police activity recently.
