  1. Step 1

    Sleep cheap at a guesthouse. Ulaanbaatar has a few small guesthouses run by the locals. These clean, cozy accommodations have hot water and modern toilets, which are luxuries in Mongolia. They are also far less expensive than a hotel and less likely to be booked up when you arrive.

  2. Step 2

    Relive your college days at a dormitory. A couple of dormitories for travelers operate in Ulaanbaatar. If you don't mind living in close quarters with many strangers and are just looking for a bed to sleep in during your stay, you can't go wrong with a dormitory. At around $4 a night, these accommodations are about as cheap as they come.
