Book Your Cheap Accommodations in Berlin, Germany

Step1
Live where you party. No city in Europe parties harder than Berlin, where the centers of nightlife are Kreuzberg-Friedrichshain and Schoneberg in the West, and Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg in the East. Book accommodations in these districts if you plan to rip it up.
Step2
Book cheap accommodations in Berlin's gay district. Legendarily liberal with regard to alternative lifestyles, pretty much anything goes in Berlin's many gay bars and clubs, centered around Nollendorfplatz in Schoneberg.
Step3
Go East, young man. In general, the West is still ahead of the East in scope and quality of offerings for visitors, but most cheap accommodations and new development are in the East, such as the dynamic new Daimler-Chrysler headquarters located on the site of the former Berlin Wall in Potsdamer Platz.
Step4
Stay at the historic Hotel Bogota. Located in Charlottenburg, this gem of a hotel is rich in history and character, if slightly rough around the edges. Its atmosphere befits its long history and varied uses, from hosting guests like Benny Goodman and Helmut Newton to headquartering the Nazi Cultural Office during WWII.
Step5
Support the arts when you book cheap Berlin accommodations. Although the Arte Luise Kunsthotel was born as a place for struggling artists to live and work cheaply, it's the rooms themselves that are the art here. Each time someone stays in a particular room, the artist who designed the room receives royalties.

Explore Berlin, Germany

Step1
Appreciate musical theater. 1920s-era Weimar Germany was famous for the casual decadence of its theaters and music revues, as immortalized in the film "Cabaret". Today, theaters across the city consciously recreate this style and atmosphere for tourist consumption.
Step2
Tour the Bauhaus Archive/Museum of Design. The legendary Bauhaus school played a pivotal role in the development of contemporary art and architecture, with famous faculty members such as Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, Walter Gropius and Lyonel Feininger.
Step3
See the house that love built, Schloss Charlottenburg. Frederick I built this Baroque palace for his beloved wife, Sophie-Charlotte.
Step4
Remember the past. Though the Berlin Wall is gone, the famous Checkpoint Charlie remains as a monument to the concrete tourniquet that once divided the city.

Tips & Warnings

  • As a consequence of being a divided city for so long, Berlin doesn't have one real 'center' but several. Two of the most prominent are Charlottenburg in the West and Berlin Mitte (simply 'Mitte') in the East.
