Step1
Have a Mandarin phrasebook handy when you travel to Taipei. English is certainly spoken, and the street signs often have translations on them, but there are plenty of people in the city who are not bilingual.
Step2
Exchange your currency for the New Taiwanese Dollar. Foreign money is not accepted in the city outside of banks or currency exchanges.
Step3
Book accommodations in Taipei during November and be there for the Golden Horse Chinese Language Film Festival. It is one of the most prominent film festivals in Asia, featuring new Chinese language films (all subtitled, of course).

Get Around Taipei, Taiwan

Step1
Arrive in Taipei at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, still known by many by its older name of 'C.K.S.' It receives travelers from around the world, with Britain and Japan being two of the top travel origins.
Step2
Take a ride on the train that serves all of Taiwan. It offers fast reliable service to points around the island, and makes its most frequent stops at Taipei Railway Station on Zhongxiao West Road.

  • Like any big city, Taipei has its share of crime. It's important to use good judgment and common sense when moving about the city, particularly if you're alone and on unfamiliar ground.
