Things You'll Need:
- A computer with Internet access for making reservations and booking accommodations
-
Step 1
Expect crowds. A place as pristine and beautiful as Port Louis will always draw a crowd. During the high season, there are lots of tourists all over Mauritius and it will be harder to find a secluded beach to call your own.
-
Step 2
Sit back and watch the sunset. Mauritius is famous for its unbelievable sunsets and any resort on the island's west side will have uninterrupted views of the world's finest daily show.
-
Step 3
Pack lightly. On most days you won't need more than a swim suit, but you'll also want to bring some sturdy shoes for hiking the island's many interior trails.
-
Step 1
Jump on the express bus from Mauritius's international airport to Port Louis. The bus runs every hour but because it can be crowded, it's only worthwhile if you're not carrying any baggage.
-
Step 2
Agree on a fare with your taxi driver. Most taxis in Mauritius are now metered, but if a cab you hail isn't, you should agree on a price before starting the 50 km drive from the airport to your accommodations in Port Louis.
-
Step 3
Drive carefully. Remember that people drive on the left-hand side of the road in Mauritius.
-
Step 1
Expect the best in Port Louis. Resorts in Mauritius have very high standards and provide some truly amazing accommodations at very reasonable prices.
-
Step 2
Play in the water. Water sports are central to life in Mauritius and many of the fine resorts offer snorkeling and scuba instruction as well as certification.
-
Step 3
Know that some of the best resorts have their own bars, trendy boutique stores and private beaches exclusively for the use of their guests.
-
Step 1
Participate in local festivals. The large Indian community in Mauritius means that there are Hindu festivals being celebrated all year.
-
Step 2
Dress conservatively away from the beach. Swim wear is only acceptable while sunbathing or playing in the water.
