How to Find Hotels in Norway

It's true that Norway has fjords and plenty of snowy mountains. But what many people don't know is just how diverse the climate and terrain really are. Southern Norway has beautiful forests and the interior of the country boasts rolling farmland and quaint villages. And yes, there's also just a bit of skiing.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A computer with Internet access in order to book accommodations online
  • A valid passport from your nation of origin and all appropriate visas

Choose a Location and Class of Hotel in Norway

Step1
Book 5-star accommodations in Oslo, the capital, near the harbor. Prices will be a bit expensive at about $300 per night, but you'll have the best view of the waterfront and the closest access to freshly caught fish.
Step2
Sleep under the stars on campgrounds near the mountains and glacier parks in the interior or near the Bergen. Most campgrounds offer per night rates under $20.
Step3
Keep money in your wallet by sleeping in a youth hostel in almost any major city in Norway, such as Trondheim or Kristiansand. Rates for these rooms rarely top $30, and some of the best hostels are located near the country's star attractions
Step4
Sleep in a mid-range hotel just outside Oslo in Drammen. It was once a heavily industrial city, but has recently become a great place for budget-minded tourists to crash for a few nights (to the tune of $85 to $120 per night).

Prepare for Your Hotel Stay in Norway

Step1
Reach Norway by flying into Oslo Airport Gardermoen, the primary international airport in the nation. Flights arrive regularly from around the world.
Step2
Take the train to Norway from Stockholm in Sweden or most other major European cities. Oslo serves as a great end point for any journey through the continent.
Step3
Arrange for ferry service from Oslo to international cities along the Scandinavian coast and around the Baltic Sea. Several major tour companies offer cruises from city to city, with accommodations at each port of call.

Experience Norway

Step1
Visit the fjords as soon as possible. They are one of Norway's prime tourist attractions, and the country has worked to make them accessible, whether you stay for an afternoon or book accommodations along the coast.
Step2
Stay in accommodations near the Akershus Slott & Festning, a 700-year-old medieval castle that was the site of several major battles. Its nearly impregnable walls draw visitors hoping to learn about Norway during the Middle Ages.
Step3
Spend a few extra dollars and stay in a nice resort in the Norwegian mountains. Ski lodges and resorts are relatively inexpensive, particularly for large groups (about $200 per night for a group of 10 or so).
