Choose the Perfect Location and Hotel in Nepal

  1. Step 1

Take advantage of mid-range accommodations in Kathmandu, Nepal's capital. There are a number of great hotels offering rooms for as little as $60 per night.

  2. Step 2

Sleep on the outskirts of Kathmandu or Bhaktapur. Low-priced hotels (as little as $20 per night) are common outside the city centers.

  3. Step 3

Camp in the outdoors in Nepal. There are plenty of great campgrounds and wilderness areas that are free and are open to people year-round.

  4. Get in and Around Nepal

  5. Step 1

Arrive in Tribhuyan International Airport, near Kathmandu; this is the only airport equipped for international arrivals. Gulf Air, Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation and Indian Airlines currently serve Nepal.

  6. Step 2

Walk around Kathmandu and many other major destinations in Nepal. There are many transportation options, but walking is free, and many great destinations are near major hotels and tourist hubs.

  7. Step 3

Take the train to get from city to city in Nepal. Many hotels are located near major stations, so it's easy to have accommodations ready when you arrive.

  8. Experience Nepal's Culture

  9. Step 1

Book accommodations along the route to Mount Everest. The journey can take a long time, and it's important to be comfortable before you climb to the roof of the world.

  10. Step 2

Visit Kathmandu's Swayambunath, the famous "Monkey Temple." Thousands of visitors take pictures on the steps.

  11. Step 3

Sleep near Thamel Chowk in Kathmandu, one of the main market districts. You'll find tons of great shops and restaurants, as well as very affordable accommodations within walking distance.

Tips & Warnings
  • Flights to and within Nepal are often canceled due to inclement weather; be sure to reconfirm booked flights, particularly those headed to remote areas, a few days in advance.
  • For a cheaper option available to foreigners, enter Nepal from India. Buses regularly depart from Patna.
  • Fall and spring are Nepal's busiest tourist seasons, particularly from September to early December. Be sure to book accommodations well in advance if traveling during these times, as hotels fill up quickly.
  • To book accommodations in Nepal, call the Tourist Service Center at 011 (+977) 1 4256909, 4256229 or visit the link below.
  • All phone numbers include the international prefix "011." When calling internationally but not from the United States or Canada, substitute that "011" with "00." All country codes are within parentheses and begin with a "+" sign.
  • Public buses are a slow, crowded and often dangerous mode of transportation for Nepal's tortuous roads. Bus collisions claim hundreds of local lives each year.
  • Make sure your vaccinations are up-to-date before visiting Nepal. Malaria is a concern in the country.
  • Travel warnings are still in effect for Nepal, though the civil war has reached a conclusion (as of November 2006) with a signing of a peace treaty between the involved parties. Still, keep up-to-date on the security situation.
