The modern-day capital of the Caribbean island St. Lucia, Castries was founded by the Arawak tribe hundreds of years before the first European settlers arrived. Although the island was under British control for over 150 years, there is still heavy French influence in Castries, especially on the local language. Today, tourists flock to Castries to get a glimpse at the cone-shaped Pitons, which are found south of Soufriere.

Things You'll Need:

  • Accommodations reservations confirmation
  • Round-trip ticket
  • Computer with Internet access for making reservations
  • Passport or proof of US citizenship

    Find Your Accommodations

  1. Step 1

Stay in an all-inclusive resort for the ultimate luxury experience. All-inclusive resorts offer guests unparalleled rooms with balconies overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Even better, you'll have access to unlimited food, drinks and water sports, all for between $300 and $800 a night.

  2. Step 2

Understand that accommodations in paradise don't have to be expensive. There are a variety of beach resorts in Castries that cost less than $150 a night. These mid-range hotels may not be as luxurious as their all-inclusive counterparts, but what they lack in amenities, they make up in charm.

  3. Step 3

Consider staying at an apartment hotel right near the beach along Marigot Bay for the best deals on accommodations. Most apartments cost around $90 per night, but there are some places that charge less than $50 for a one bedroom apartment with a separate living room and full kitchen.

  4. Step 4

Stay a little longer to save money on long-term lodging with one of Castries, St. Lucia's self-catering villas or condos. While you will not receive the white-glove treatment hotel staff offer, you'll enjoy greater privacy and freedom at a per-diem lower price.

  5. Step 5

Book accommodations by calling the St. Lucia Tourist Board at 011 (+758) 452 4094 from inside the US, 00 (+758) 452 4094 from outside the US, or by visiting the link below in Additional Resources.

Spend a good deal of time at the beach. Castries is known throughout the world for its gorgeous beaches, and adventurous types will enjoy the water sports, such as snorkeling and scuba diving.
