Puerto Vallarta, Mexico offers a perfect mix of old and new to its visitors. Excellent restaurants, sandy beaches and an exuberant night life can be found here alongside the cobblestone streets of a traditional Mexican village.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Valid passport
  • Computer with Internet access for making reservations

Get to Know Your Destination

Step1
Find friendly locals in this traditional Mexican village and tourist destination. Puerto Vallarta's natives have been voted some of the most amiable in the world.
Step2
Enjoy outdoor activities like golfing, rock climbing and hiking while in Puerto Vallarta. Planned excursions can be booked with local tour companies; there are many self-guided tours available here as well.

Choose Your Accommodations

Step1
Make reservations with one of the many international chain hotels in Puerto Vallarta's Marina Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta, and Punta Mita areas. These luxury accommodations typically cost the most of any in the village.
Step2
Rent a luxury condominium in Puerto Vallarta's hotel zone. Vacation rentals have become commonplace in Mexico and there are several agencies which offer booking services for these accommodations.
Step3
Find more moderately priced accommodations in Old Town Vallarta, minutes away from the village's downtown area. You can expect to pay between $40 and $65 a night on a room in this part of town.
Step4
Book a room in one of Puerto Vallarta's bed and breakfast inns. These small inns sometimes have a private beach for their guests to enjoy, away from the more crowded public beaches.
Step5
Rent a luxury villa or private guest house for your stay in Puerto Vallarta. You will find vacation rental options for couples or large parties, many of which feature wedding packages in this picturesque village.
Step6
Book accommodations by visiting Mexperience at the link below in Additional Resources. Or, contact Puerto Vallarta's tourist information office, 011 (+3) 223 25 00. If you are calling outside the US, call 00 (+3) 223 25 00.

Arrange Your Transportation

Step1
Arrive by plane at Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport, situated just north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. This is a relatively small airport in process of expanding, so delays are to be expected.
Step2
Ask your hotel if transportation is provided from the airport. There may be a fee associated with this service but it is the most convenient mode of transportation to Puerto Vallarta.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ask your airline if the fee for the required tourist permit is included in your airfare.
  • Be familiar with exit taxes levied on tourists leaving Mexico and have cash on hand to pay them if they are not included in your transportation costs.
  • Avoid displaying large amounts of cash in public or using ATMs in unsupervised areas as robbery and pick-pocketing is common.

on 4/14/2008 Me and my family just got back from Puerto Vallarta. We are headed back this summer to meet up with the family. We took your advice and arranged transportation before hand through a company we found: http://www.vallartadiscovery.com which was such a convenience! If you haven't already made transportation arrangements you should definitely consider using their service.
