iTunes is known for being one of the most convenient and easy to use music stores available. In iTunes, you can store music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, playlists, and many other personalized features. However, if you share a computer in your household, you may want to set certain standards for what you want your children to see and hear with their iTunes library. To configure the parental controls in iTunes, follow these steps:

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer
  • iTunes account

Step1
Turn on your computer. Load your iTunes program.
Step2
Locate the toolbar at the top of your iTunes. Select Edit, and then click Preferences in the drop-down menu.
Step3
Click on Parental Control on the top toolbar once the Preferences box opens.
Step4
Look over the control options iTunes gives you. You have the ability to edit sources, the iTunes Store, and movie ratings. Check the boxes of the items you wish to block.
Step5
Click the lock. This will secure parental controls. Next, enter your name and password.

Tips & Warnings

  • Using the Ctrl button and the + (plus) key can also take you to the Preferences box to edit parental controls.
  • Disabling shared music is one way to make sure your children are not downloading music with computer viruses.
  • The only person allowed to change parental controls is the name under the administrative privileges.
