How to Back Up Songs Purchased From the iTunes Store Using iTunes 5 or 6

Apple's iTunes lets you back up all or part of your library to disk. If you want to back up only the music you purchased from the iTunes Store, follow the steps below.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Apple iTunes 5 or 6
  • Computer with CD or DVD burner
  • Blank CD or DVD
  1. Step 1

    Open iTunes on your computer.

  2. Step 2

    Select the "Preferences" tab.

  3. Step 3

    Choose "Advanced," then "Burning."

  4. Step 4

    Choose "Data CD or DVD." Click "OK" to continue.

  5. Step 5

    Choose the “Purchased" playlist from the "Source" window. If you don't already have a "Purchased" playlist, you can create one using the Smart Playlist feature. Reference the size displayed to decide what media you'll need to accommodate the file.

  6. Step 6

    Select "Burn Disc" from the top of the screen. Insert the CD or DVD when prompted.

  7. Step 7

    Label your disk and store it in a safe place.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure there is enough space on your blank disk for the backup.
  • You are only allowed to burn purchases once.
