Instructions

    • 1

Remove anything from sight that could be considered a food source for wasps (do this from early summer through the middle of autumn). Anything people eat, wasps will eat. In addition, they also are scavengers that feed off animal carcasses.

    • 2

Keep all outdoor trash cans covered. Also, frequently dispose of any trash in trashcans.

    • 3

Try to find the location of the nest during the early part of the day when the wasps are active. Then mark the location of the nest.

    • 4

Treat the wasp nest at night, when all of the wasps will be in the nest. In addition, the risk of being stung is reduced at night due to wasps' poor eyesight.

    • 5

Use a pyrethrum aerosol to treat the nest. Two possible options are CB-80 Pyrethrum and Cessco 5E.

    • 6

Check for any activity at the nest early the next morning.

    • 7

Repeat Steps 4 and 5 if you detect any activity.

    • 8

Use a pest-control dust such as Drione Dust or Delta Dust once you find that all of the wasps are gone. This is a defense against hatching eggs.

    • 9

Use traps stocked with fruit juice in the late summer and early fall (or meat in the early summer) to lure and trap wasps, if you need to temporarily eliminate them for a picnic or barbecue.
