Due to the highly transferable nature of lice, parents and day-care workers have to work hard to keep these pests at bay. Follow these steps to rid your child and home of lice.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Lice shampoo
  • Fine-toothed comb
  • Pronto Plus Household Spray
Step1
Use a maximum strength over-the-counter shampoo intended to eliminate lice, as soon as lice are noticed.
Step2
Be sure to read all package directions. Most lice shampoos are used while the hair is dry.
Step3
Comb out lice and nits (head-lice eggs) with a fine-toothed comb after applying the lice treatment. Allow about an hour for this procedure.
Step4
Repeat the shampoo treatment after 10 days. The shampoo does not kill eggs, so a second treatment is required to kill the lice that have hatched in the meantime.
Step5
Wash all bedding and pillows in hot water.
Step6
Use a spray such as Pronto Plus Household Spray on the inside of the car, furniture and unwashable garments and bedding.
Step7
Put all fabric items that you cannot spray or wash in a tightly sealed plastic bag for one month.
