You set up your Web site. You're keeping it up to date. But do you know if it's working for you in the way that you hoped? One way to find out is to check your site statistics. Here's how.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet connection
  • Web site
  1. Step 1

Replace your hits counter with a free site-tracker tool, such as the one available at CQ Counter (see link below).

  2. Step 2

Sign up and activate an account with a site-tracker service, then add the HTML code that is provided to your Web site. (Note: most free site trackers also require that you add a clickable link to their site on your page.)

  3. Step 3

See what tools your Web hosting service provides; they may offer site-tracking tools that you can use—and that don't require linking to another site.

  4. Step 4

View site statistics online based on time period, how visitors were referred and the system that they used to view your page.

  5. Step 5

Use the data to get ideas for changes you can make to improve your site.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't choose the first statistics tracker that you find. Look into a few different options to see which would benefit you the most.
