Cockroaches can become a problem in any location where food is prepared or stored. They are nasty little creatures that have been known to cause food poisoning and transmit diseases. Follow these steps to get rid of cockroaches.

  1. Step 1

    Determine where the cockroaches are hiding. Place traps in suspected locations and check them regularly. Check warm places that have access to water.

  2. Step 2

    Be prepared to use several strategies. Generally, one strategy such as bait will not work alone.

  3. Step 3

    Remove any food or water source from the infested area.

  4. Step 4

    Purchase baits and sticky traps and lay them in the area where you found the cockroaches.

  5. Step 5

    Use a spray or dust intended to target cockroaches.

  6. Step 6

    Do not waste money on sound devices that claim to rid an area of cockroaches. These devices are not effective.

  7. Step 7

    Continue to use the traps and keep the area free of food and garbage to monitor the effectiveness of your strategies.

  8. Step 8

    Also, vacuum any cracks or crevices to remove any food you can't easily see.

  9. Step 9

    If you vacuum any cockroaches, be sure to destroy the debris.
