Do Nasal Irrigation
Do Nasal Irrigation

Suffer from hayfever? Ever battle sinusitis? Have perpetual stoppage in the nose region? I've been there and come spring blooming season, I'll be there again. Two different friends recommended nasal irrigation as did one doctor and I pass it to you as a very helpful hint.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • glass jar that will hold at least 1 quart of water
  • distilled water
  • salt (kosher, pickling or canning)
  • baking soda (pure bicarbonate)
  • syringe or bulb irrigator
  1. Step 1

Clean your glass jar and fill with 1 quart distilled water.

  2. Step 2

Add two to three heaping teaspoons of salt (kosher, canning or pickling, NOT table salt, it contains additives).

  3. Step 3

Add one rounded teaspoon of baking soda.

  4. Step 4

Store at room temperature and shake or stir before each use.

  5. Step 5

Pour some of the mixture into a clean bowl. You can warm it to body temperature if you like but please don't make it hot!

  6. Step 6

Fill the syringe or bulb irrigator and stand over the sink or in the shower. Bend your head forward and turn it sideways so you're almost looking over your shoulder. Squirt the mixture into upper side of your nose and let it drain out the lower side. Gently blow each nostril clear. Repeat the squirt technique for the other nostril, turning your head the other direction.

  7. Step 7

Do two or three times a day.

  8. Step 8

Mix a new batch weekly. Breathe easier!
