How to Align the Finder Scope of the Sky-Watcher SK1025AZ3 Short Tube Refractor Telescope

The Sky-Watcher SK1025AZ3 Telescope is good for beginners and traveling observers. The finder scope is a tool mounted on a telescope to help you target an astronomical object. It does not have high magnification power but it is equipped with variable brightness control, azimuth adjustment control and altitude adjustment options. The Sky-Watcher SK1025AZ3 has a 6x30 finder scope. Its proper alignment is essential to focus on the objects. Here is how to align the finder scope.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

1. Focus your finder scope so that you can see toward the rear end of your telescope. To do this, loosen the locking ring by unscrewing it toward the bracket. Turn the front lens holder in and out to focus appropriately. Lock it in position with the ring once you gain the focus.
2. Choose an object at least 500 yards away from the main telescope and point the instrument at it. Adjust the telescope so that the object can be viewed at the center of your eyepiece.
3. Check if the object is at the center of the finder scope.
4. Use the two screws to align the object with the center of crosshairs.

Tips & Warnings

• Rotate the screws on the finder scope slowly to make adjustments. Best results can be achieved with patience.
• Use either the azimuth or the altitude control one at a time to avoid confusion. Once you have perfectly aligned the finder scope along one direction, you can start adjustment using the altitude control.
• Do not touch the eyepiece with your bare hands.
• Always use a special optical lens cloth for cleaning.
• Avoid observations near the horizon, as you will be looking through lots of atmosphere, complete with turbulence, dust particles and increased light pollution. This will give you a poor image of the object.
