What's the easiest way to save images from a home security camera? You can use a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) system to record your data. Read on to learn how to save images from a home security camera.

From Quick Guide: Home Security Cameras
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Install one or more video security cameras in your home.

  2. Step 2

Set the images recorded by the camera or cameras to be recorded with your DVR system.

  3. Step 3

Adjust the settings of the DVR. In many cases, you can set the DVR to record single frames at specified intervals–such as ten seconds–when the camera is picking nothing up. However, when motion is detected, the DVR will still be set to record in real time.

  4. Step 4

If you don't have a DVR system, then you can still use a VCR. However a DVR will allow you to record for longer periods of time without having to change tapes regularly.

Tips & Warnings
  • Choose a DVR that is expandable. Consider extra hard drives or connections to a PC to copy the recorded material.
  • A DVR system can be more expensive than a VCR. The difference in cost is quickly made up by the additional recording time and not needing to buy video tapes.
