Step 1
Install one or more video security cameras in your home.

Set the images recorded by the camera or cameras to be recorded with your DVR system.

Adjust the settings of the DVR. In many cases, you can set the DVR to record single frames at specified intervals–such as ten seconds–when the camera is picking nothing up. However, when motion is detected, the DVR will still be set to record in real time.

If you don't have a DVR system, then you can still use a VCR. However a DVR will allow you to record for longer periods of time without having to change tapes regularly.
